Welcome to the New Practitioners Wiki
 
The New Practicioners Learning Lab met onsite in Atlanta on Monday, June 4 from 5:45-6:30 pm; Tuesday, June 5 from 12:15-1:00 pm and Wednesday, June 6 from 12:00-12:45 pm.  Highlights of our discussions can be found below.   Please feel free to add links, comments, questions, or other general information!

What were the most important things we learned at the ASTD Conference?
 
"Go to their swamp"

Focus on key points and eliminate the "fluff"

- engage with questions
- be interested instead of interesting
- don't just have a job, have responsibilities
 
 
Always be willing to learn
 
Know your audience (and your material)
 
There's a change in mindset from focusing on Performance to focusing on Talent
 
Watching others present gives me perspective on how I present
 
Build relationships, not just transactions
 
Training is not always the answer (according to Bob Pike, its the 6th answer)
 
A way to quiet a large group...   Say "If you can hear my voice, clap once. If you can hear my voice, clap twice..."
 
Find a job/career that gives you joy

There are SO many facets of the WLP (workplace learning & performance) field
 
I've been targeting the wrong clients!
 
The importance of setting up a leadership development program
